What is Coenzima Q10?

Use and mechanism of action

Coenzyme Q10, also known as ubiquinone, is a lipophilic compound that is insoluble in water. It is essential within our body mainly due to the function of the mitochondria, the cell organelles responsible for producing energy in the cell.
Today’s lifestyle is increasingly characterised by high levels of stress or environmental pollution, which not only lead to energy consumption, but can also promote the formation of extremely unstable and reactive molecules, known as free radicals, which are responsible for major damage to the structural elements of the cells, such as proteins, enzymes, DNA and lipids.
It is in fact the free radicals that cause oxidation of LDL cholesterol, for example, with adverse effects that can affect the entire cardiovascular system.
