When we are sick, our hair also suffers, becoming more fragile and drier, with the risk of breaking and falling out. No less serious and evident are disorders that can affect the skin or nails. Many factors can undermine and condition the health of these elements, if we consider atmospheric pollution, the use of overly aggressive hygiene and beauty products, a "dry" nutrient supply or aging. Hair, skin and nails SUPERIOR is a food supplement of vitamins, minerals with amino acids, hydrolysed collagen, bioflavonoids, coenzyme Q10 and bamboo extract. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for normal skin function and acts as an important contrast against oxidative stress. The presence of bioflavonoids, which are a complex of plant pigments with a particular beneficial action (see Esperidin), are found in close synergistic combination with vitamin C and further promote absorption, providing important protection against the damage caused by free radicals. Another essential function of bioflavonoids is to strengthen the capillary walls whose main task is to allow an exchange of vital substances (oxygen and nutrition) between the blood and the surrounding tissues. They are a further aid for collagen, strengthening the matrix of the connective tissue and inhibiting the enzymes secreted by the white blood cells which would otherwise destroy collagen during inflammatory processes, as well as preventing the release and synthesis of compounds such as histamine which cause inflammation. Bioflavonoids are vasoprotective bioactive substances that also help prevent the formation of thromboses, platelet clots and arteriosclerotic plaque formation, and are useful in case of oedema because they prevent the passage of excessive fluids in the tissues through the capillaries. Zinc is a trace element with great antioxidant support and it intervenes appreciably to maintain the physiological health of the scalp; it is widely used for maintaining a healthy and elastic skin, and for nail strength. Biotin contributes to maintenance of normal and more robust hair and skin, while copper contributes to maintenance of the normal pigmentation of skin and hair. The presence of precious hydrolysed collagen, with the support of hyaluronic acid, is of primary importance for this type of supplement, because collagen is the main fibrous protein in the skin. Collagen fibres provide the infrastructure for elastin, which maintains elasticity of the skin, and for hyaluronic acid, which retains moisture, offering greater hydration and tone. However, we know that the natural production of collagen does not remain constant with age, and already from the age of 25 begins a slow, but inexorable decrease in the production of the protein that causes progressive weakening and yielding of the structure of the epidermis. When skin cells become less active, the collagen network – which gives firmness and structure – breaks down, and the skin becomes thinner and much more dehydrated with the appearance of wrinkles that become increasingly marked. It is as if the "foundations" of the skin scaffolding were going to give way, causing cracks. Even nails are made of collagen and its deficiency causes weakening. Hair itself needs collagen which, once absorbed, is used by the hair follicles to produce keratin, which is necessary for a healthy head of flowing hair. Collagen molecules have beneficial moisturising and repairing effects on the hair fibre, retaining water inside the hair preventing dehydration, encouraging an increase in hair diameter, making it visibly full-bodied and thicker.
