Optimum 100% Whey Gold Standard is the best-selling protein supplement in the USA and has received numerous awards for its very high quality. 100% Whey Gold Standard, as the name implies, is a protein supplement entirely derived from whey, which guarantees a very high biological value, excellent digestibility and a high content of branched chain amino acids.

Whey protein has the highest biological value (BV) and protein efficiency (PER). They have an assimilation time of 20-25 minutes and a stay in the blood stream of about 3 hours. Therefore they can be considered to all intents and purposes "immediate release" proteins.

Optimum Nutrition Whey Gold Standards consist of:

• Whey protein concentrate: s ono obtained by ultrafiltration, have a protein content that varies origin from 73% to 83%, approximately, contain from 4% to 6% fat. They are the most used, as they have a low cost. Supplements that contain these proteins typically have a protein content of around 80% and a fat content of more than 4%. They are high quality proteins.
• Whey protein isolate: there are two types: (1) with a protein content at the origin greater than 90%, fat less than 1% and lactose about 1%. (2) with a protein content of about 80% and fat below 1%. They are both high quality proteins, type (1) is comparable in quality and price to ion exchange proteins. Type (2) is priced much cheaper and still maintains a high quality. Microfiltered whey proteins slightly differ in composition from ion exchange proteins, due to the different extraction process: they are particularly rich in beta-lactoglobulin, glycomacropeptides and lactoferrin. Typical content of the protein fractions of microfiltered whey proteins: 55,9% beta-lactoglobulin (containing 50% branched), 14.9% alpha-lactalbumin, 1.55% bovine serum albumin (BSA), 3% immunoglobulin (IgG), 20% glycomacropeptides, 0.125% of lactoferrin and other minor peptides: lactoperoxidase, lactolin, lysozyme, relaxin, gamma-globulins, beta-microglobulin and other micro peptides.
• Hydrolyzed whey protein: These proteins are derived (in most cases) from the enzymatic digestion of whey proteins. This predigestion system allows the protein powder to be assimilated almost instantly by the body (about 10-15 minutes after intake). They allow you to make the most of the "anabolic window" that is open after training. On the other hand, however, they have no anti-catabolic properties.
