Sesame seed oil
sesame oil, extracted from the seeds of the Sesamum indicu plant, of the Pedaliaceae family, cold pressed through a mechanical process. Oil with a delicate flavor of sesame, slightly astringent with a warm aftertaste.
Rich in oleic (omega-9; 36.0 g) and linoleic (omega-6; 38.0 g) acids which help maintain normal blood cholesterol levels and prevent cardiovascular disease, an activity also favored by the presence of lecithin, which sesame oil represents one of the richest sources, and of plant sterols. Furthermore, both the sesame seeds and the oil contain in the unsaponifiable fraction a lignano, sesamol, which is believed to contribute to the antioxidant action.
Sesame oil is obtained from the seeds of a herbaceous plant native to India and Africa; it was already known in the sixth century BC by the Assyrians, who appreciated it both as a medicine and as a food condiment. The sesame plant is widely cultivated in India, Burma, Africa, China and the United States while in Europe it is known in the more Mediterranean areas of the South such as Italy and Greece.
DIRECTIONS: delicate and tasty, it gives an unmistakable tone wherever you put it, ideal for giving a touch of Asian to cooked foods and fresh salads. It is a very stable oil and does not turn rancid. Also excellent for skin and hair.
